Ugh! BOYS!

I'll tell you what, I hate bitching at my kids! Unfortunately, they're the perfect age for it. I hear from many people that they will always be at the perfect age for it. Ha! You should hear my father in law unload on my husband, still. It makes me giggle! Seriously though... it's 105 degrees outside today and they're spending the whole day inside with me and the hardest part of parenting so far is keeping them wrangled without losing my grip. "Close the door!" "Don't run in the house!" "Optimus Prime is NOT a baseball!" "Clean up... anything!" I try to give my boys options and encourage them to make the best decision they can figure out. "You could clean your room now and not have to spend as much time cleaning it tomorrow or you could just play all day today and not get to tomorrow." So far they still always just wait until 'tomorrow'. Then it's a constant battle all day that will most likely end with punishment. It is such a frustrating way to spend the day. Most of the time, my 'grip' is defined as 'level headed discipline without feeling guilty'. Aiden has been spending a lot of time in the corner and I don't think O'Ryan has gotten to play with his video game more than a couple of hours this whole week. This could easily become a post about stepping up to the plate as a parent who chooses to raise their own children versus the parent who allows their children to raise themselves. I digress.  I consider myself a good mother and like others I try to find a balance between letting them do whatever the heck they want and getting them to do something constructive. Ha!

Anyway, Aiden's new favorite stance is "Mom, you know you're being mean to your kids!" I'm not kidding! He comes to me after he stands in the corner and complains to me about how he's being raised. He's 5. FIVE. I'll admit, it's actually hard to not let him talk his way out of it sometimes. I literally remind myself that he's 5 and I'm his mother and there's no way on God's green Earth that he has managed to learn enough to raise himself. It doesn't hurt his argument that I really don't like fussing at him either. So asking him to do something I know he doesn't want to, arguing with him to get it done, bitching at him for not doing it, punishing him for not doing it, and then consoling him after he has gotten in trouble is a task I'd love to not master; BUT, I'm a good Mom. I'll be darned if I don't pass along the skills and life lessons I was taught by my parents, no matter how frustrating it can get. They never gave up on me and I'm all the better for it.

Words of encouragement are always helpful and when I found this I had to have it:

We'll see how it all works out. Fingers crossed, my good boys will become good men!

Aiden Gray Makes His Video Debut

Aiden Gray loves watching You Tube videos of people transforming Transformer toys. This weekend he got a new Megatron toy for his birthday and asked Mimi to film him! The outcome was adorable! Below is a funny and matter of fact Aiden Gray way of explaining what he's got in his hands:

I absolutely LOVE how he ends it.

Sweet, sweet little boy.

It's Birthday Party Crunch Time!

WOW what a week! Sex, Intimacy, Birth Control Politics... and now it's hump day! The goof ball in me just giggled a bit. However tempting it may be to continue this trend, I'm off to prepare for a birthday party... that is happening in 3 days! Think I can do it!?

Confession: It is THREE DAYS until Aiden's super awesome Dr. Seuss Carnival. I know... I totally failed at planning ahead. Truth is, I had planned to the max but the whole bed rest thing kind of hindered my plans. I've been assured though that 4 days is plenty of notice for parents. We'll see! I haven't done a blasted thing except make these banging invitations yesterday:
I started hand writing invitations that were going to be awesome little fish (1 Fish, 2 Fish...) but after an hour having made only 3, I realized that I could design the invites with awesome colors and pictures and have them photo printed at CVS for just a couple of bucks. I was right! It took me less than 10 minutes to design this one and I was able to pick them up in 15 minutes! Talk about easy! They turned out great!

{By the way, if you are ever in need of any sort of invite or announcement, as a hobby I like to create all sorts of paper goods... FOR FREE! Just email me and we'll collaborate.}

So on the schedule for the next few days:

1. Make Signs for Carnival Stations
     a. Thing 1 & Thing 2 Portrait Station
     b. One Fish Two Fish Fishing Hole
     c. Oobleck Station
     d. Whoville Face Painting Station
     e. Pin the Star on the Sneetch
2. Pick up party favors at Michaels.
3. Paint Party Favor Bags with Aiden & O'Ryan tonight.

I'll be updating this post as I go so stay tuned! Also, if you have any suggestions for more themed games, let me know... if we use your idea I'll send you something awesome!

Tell All Free For All!

I was super psyched to stumble upon this link up today at not one of my fave blogs but two!

Lauren & Rushelle teamed up and came up with an awesome link up... join in!

I dropped my baby.

Seriously, it could happen to you. I was leaving Wal-Mart and had my baby boy of 6 months on my shoulders. I had so much fun walking with him on my shoulders and reminiscing about when my grandfather used to carry me on his shoulders and how much I loved it. We got to the car and I dropped my umbrella so without hesitation I leaned down and picked it up. As I stood back up, my heart stopped. In order to lean down and grab something I had let go of Aiden's tiny little ankles.

Everything happened so fast! As the realization struck a chord of fear within me I noticed there were not one but three women gaping at me around the parking lot. One even let out a little scream and ran towards me. I whirled around and found him a few feet away... laughing. His little bald head was dirty with asphalt rocks and trash but he seemed fine. I grabbed him up and grasped him all the way to the hospital... boo-hoo'ing to Sarah about how I had probably caused some terrible harm to him and HOW COULD I HAVE DROPPED HIM!? FROM MY SHOULDERS!? 6 FEET TO PAVEMENT!? AT 6 MONTHS OLD!? I was mortified. So much so, they threatened to sedate me at the hospital. My baby was fine after all, not even a scratch... but I still look back and feel the 'Oh no, did that just happen?' feeling!

He doesn't believe me...

Me: You see my belly?

Aiden: Ugh. *rolls eyes* I know. There's a baby in there.

*seconds pass

Aiden: What does a baby do in there?

Me: It grows bigger and bigger...

Aiden: *interrupts* *serious tone* Mom! That's ridiculous.

Me: No, see it grows bigger and bigger until it...

Aiden: *disgusted, serious tone* Mom! Seriously. That really is ridiculous.

Me: *shrugs* Fair enough.

So, I am beginning to fear what's going to happen when Declan finally does arrive. Aiden Gray is in complete denial and show threatening signs of regression! Any advice!?

Birthday Bash!

It's a bit early to be planning  a birthday party for March but I can't resist mentioning that I've just discovered the theme:

Aiden Gray will be turning 5 years old! I can't hardly believe the time has passed by so quickly. I'm so happy to be able to have so many vivid memories of our lives together. I am so very proud to have a son with such a vibrant personality! Who better to help celebrate that than Dr. Seuss himself? I can't hardly wait!

Know something else that's pretty awesome? Dr. Seuss's birthday is March 2, only a few days before Aiden's!

Christmas Fantasticness

Watch this:

Did you nearly die laughing as hard as I did when I saw this?

This happened to me! My darling beau bought me a car for Christmas. It's not just any old car either... it's an old totally awesome hipster fantastic car! A white 1991 Volvo 240. It's so spectacular it has burnt orange/yellow colored leather interior!

I do not look as thrilled as I actually was because my family was showing up and I catch enough grief from  them for acting a fool as it is. :) I made out like a freakin bandit this year! This was my other most awesome gift from Brett:

Honestly though (insert sappy music here) I seriously made the best memories this year. My wonderful smart  4 year old little boy nailed it yesterday when he was overheard saying to O'Ryan:

"Do you know what just happened here!? AWESOME! 'AWESOME' just happened here!"

Here are some snapshots of just what 'AWESOME' exactly was:

my children: excited about getting books from Mimi Cathy & Aunt Claire

I hope your holidays were as blessed as mine! I was not nearly prepared for the joy I experienced yesterday. Honestly, Christmas doesn't hold very many pleasant memories in my mind. I am looking so forward to making many, many more with Brett and our children!

*I sincerely apologize to those of you were looking for Wish! {out loud} Sunday link up... I dropped the ball in a major way. We'll be back up and running this Sunday, mark my word!*

Sick Day (and morning and night)

UGH

Not much for accomplishing anything today. What a waste! Unless you happen to be my Hulu Queue... to which I owe a big thank you to keeping me entertained all day. I had a friend tell me once that they didn't mind sick days so much because it gave them a perfect excuse for wasting the day watching television (ahem, Beth). I second that!

Quite frankly I'm not in the mood to do much... or think much. However, to keep from letting today be a complete bust I have picked a completely random memory to share with you! This video is really adorable and totally worth watching. This fall while at the carnival (for the first time) with Aiden Gray, he surprised me and quite a few other parents as he marched his little behind up the steps to the giant slide. I love I captured his face of hesitation at the top and then the switch to determination as he rode the slide down. I was able to get a few photos from it... you can see his terror! But as you will also see, it didn't stop him any from asking 'Can I do it again, Mom!?' I love my little dare devil!

Thanksgiving Lunch!

Today Aiden's preschool hosted their Thanksgiving lunch. My mother and I went to share the festivities with him. They had the cutest little performance and a great lunch!

Another proposal...

Aiden: Mommy! You look so pretty!
Me: Ah, thank you!
Aiden: We should get married. I'll go get my mustache. But no kissing though, got it?
Me: Got it. *heart melts

I think it's some sort of right of passage when a little boy asks his mom to marry him, right? <3 As if he didn't already own my heart.
