Mommy Wears Osh Kosh

Way back when I was weird. I had days when I didn't want anyone to know and then days when I was unabashed and certainly not ashamed of being different. Until one day Mom and I were shopping in Traverse City and I fell in love with a pair of overalls. They were dark wash, loose fitting, and had a white star embroidered on the front bib. This particular pair was held up with strings that you tied in the back. They were just cool enough to not be too weird. Then, like most everything else, I made them weird. I dipped my hands in white paint and put hand prints all over them. I wore them to school and now I know what it's like to be the girl that maybe but maybe not is pulling that off... Looking back, getting audibly laughed at didn't bother me that day because I was in love with what I was wearing. I defended my outfit and thus defended myself. Those bibs were an expression of who I was and who I wanted to be. I wanted to be different and forge my own path and for whatever reason that morning, I was daring and willing to put myself out there.

I now have a new pair of overalls. These come straight from the closet of my 73 years young father-in-law. They are already broken in where they should be and the fit is loose enough to let the breeze in, if you catch my drift. Trust me, blackberry picking in 100 degree Georgia weather makes you appreciate a well placed breeze. I wear them around the 40 acres like I'm Tom Sawyer's niece on a mission. They're my full access wear. Once again, bibs are taking part as an expression of who I am today.

This outfit says it all. Well, all there is to say really of the past several months. This is how I have looked:

Hartwell Dam + What I Wore

This is Hartwell Dam:

Hartwell Dam is really badass because you can walk across it. Like, all the way from one end to the other.

 The lake is on one side and this huuuuge drop and the Savannah River on the other side. 

It's pretty crazy being up there.

Brett had never been so while I was still (9 months) pregnant we drove to Hartwell and ventured out to walk across, hoping to encourage the baby to come. I climbed something similar to 3 flights of stairs and walked out nearly a mile to the middle of the dam. The baby didn't even bother moving but we got some pretty awesome photos!

I HAVE THE BEST BABY EVER!

Only a few days old and such a dream we were able to take him out. Thanks to our Boba Baby Wrap it is super easy to do so! By far it has been the best gift I received from my baby wish list. It is comfy for me and my baby, stylish, and Brett can wear it too! My favorite thing about it, and why I love it more than the Baby Bjorn I wore with Aiden, is how securely Declan is strapped to me and how he is still able to bend his little noggin to look up at me. Seriously, I love this wrap. Go buy one!

I am starting to put on my baby weight. I've noticed that besides my thickening waist line, I am also losing energy to dress myself and am losing tolerance with uncomfortable fabrics... so I try to put together the easiest and most comfy outfit I can. On a funny note, I totally noticed that you could see through my black shirt a bit to my leopard bra. I could not have cared less, I was not about to change again.

Oh my gosh! Heeeeeey! It's been, like, FOREVER!? Right!? Or so it seems... Sorry it's been so long. But alas, I'm back! Soooo, there's news!

I have this habit of buying clothing off the clearance rack with no regard for the size of the garment simply because I figure one day, I might fit in it. This gold sequined spaghetti strap top is a perfect example of that habit. I purchased the top from Urban Outfitters in Asheville, North Carolina for $6. It has been sitting in my closet for nearly two whole years. It's a medium and way too big on me to justify wearing in public... until I gots myself pregnant! NOW, it's a super cute mini dress that fits just right. The entire back of it is see-through, which I deem inappropriate for pregnant ladies, so I threw it on over a black cotton spaghetti strap dress that was close enough to the same length to get away with. Paired with my fave leggings and cardigan and VOILA!

what SHE wore

This is more of a post about what Beth wore. Beth = Awesome! She's a dear friend who shares a love of music, culture, and most important to this post... FASHION. She blew me away the other day when she showed up wearing this amazingly cute cropped jacket! Or so it seemed. She'd actually been thrifting and GUESS WHAT!? She found this most adorable little boys blazer. 

I honestly would have spent a hot minute figuring out how to acquire such an effortlessly chic look. She delighted me by sharing not one but three looks where she is rocking the few boy's blazers she's found. 

We all know what the best form of flattery is, right? Right! Copycatting (is that even grammatically correct!? meh) So here's my take. I spent a bit of time in my local thrift store before remembering that I was on a mission and headed straight for the little boys section. Here is my $2 score:

Not bad, eh? I was pretty proud of this outfit! I wore it on a date with my Baby Daddy last Friday night... before we maxed our credit cards, got kicked out of the bar, and then hit the boulevard. hahaha

I bought this dress at H&M two years ago for a whopping $8 to wear to a Festivus for the Restivus party my exhusband I used to throw. I had a significantly harder time then keeping it to stay up then! This dress totally worked as a prego dress because the waist hem is just under my chest.

My baby bump made the dress a bit shorter than I would have thought decent so I added the black tights. I originally went after my footed tights and was a bit disappointed when I couldn't find them but these ended up being absolutely perfect! I think my feet showing complimented my shoulders being bare.

I was given this absolutely gorgeous wrap from a couple who traveled to Israel last Christmas. It's big enough to act as a shawl but light enough to wear as a scarf. It's literally one of my top 10 favorite accessories!

And the shoes? Why, they're MAGNIFICENT, you say? Oh how NICE of you to notice! My lover bought them because he's most amazing. They are BCBG and I got them on sale last week at Ross... only the bestest store in the whole wide world.

 

This necklace is so very special to me. Brett's mother was in a beauty pageant in the 70's and WON, of course! The pendant she was given says "The Miss America Pageant" and on the back is inscribed "Miss Walhalla Pageant". I can't believe he gave it to me... the nostalgia and rarity and memory surrounding it is so spectacular. I've added his mothers crucifix that she wore daily to the chain... even though it seemed an odd thing to do. Well anyway... the chain seemed too thin to wear solo so I wrapped it around a set of solid black pearls I have and voila!
